Recruiting Insider News & Notes: Signing Day Special
Well, at long last, it's here folks. And did we tell you that Huskies would finish strong? Oh yes, we did! Our front page is loaded right now with commit stories, and today should offer more excitement as we head on down the stretch and wait for some "fence-sitters" to make their decisions. As of late last night, there were definitely some guys still sitting on the fence. Who were they? And who could surprise? Now that signing day is here, we can devulge that information. Damariay Drew was still torn after 10 pm last night. He'd been talking things over with the Husky coaches and was still conflicted by the time he finally went to bed. Drew had committed to Cal last weekend, but he was talking a lot about graduation rates last night. So it wil… -

Recruiting Insider News & Notes 1/31
Oh what a night..one that will be remembered. I won't lie, I wasn't the least bit surprised about Shaq Thompson announcing he'd committed to Washington. After I learned on Saturday afternoon that he'd spent his own money to go see the school and city once again, I had a pretty good idea that this thing was getting settled in his mind. Bob Condotta and I spent all night on Twitter trying to figure out if there was any precedant for this, but couldn't come up with anything exact. The fact is this -- the Huskies could finish up on a higher note than anyone anticipated just a few weeks ago. Sure, losing the local linemen stung, but I guarantee that the sting will just keep becoming a faint memory by the time all the faxes are in on Wednesday. So here…Tagged in this post: Shane Brostek (2012), Jordan Payton (2012), Jaydon Mickens (2012), Pio Vatuvei (2012), Brandon Beaver (2012) -

Recruiting Insider News & Notes 1/30
Yesterday was another crazy day of breaking news, exciting developments, and shocking revelations...well, not really that shocking, but interesting. First and foremost, let's talk about Husky recruiting. As most of our subscribers know, Saturday night we reported that there had been a new and very exciting development in Husky recruiting. We were going to try to keep it under wraps, per the request of the recruits in question, but then it got leaked that Shaq Thompson had made an unoffiical visit to Dub over the weekend. We went ahead and released the news that he was joined by Jordan Payton as well. Some said, "That's it?", but what a question. When was the last time the number-one safety prospect in the country made a last-minute run to Seattle …Tagged in this post: Shaq Thompson (2012), Brandon Beaver (2012), Zach Banner (2012), Joshua Garnett (2012), Corey English (2012), Korey Durkee (2012), Michael Rector (2012), Nathan Dean (2012), Jeff Lindquist (2012), Pio Vatuvei (2012), Jaydon Mickens (2012), Jake Eldrenkamp (2012), Jordan Payton (2012), Devian Shelton (2012), Kenneth Walker (2012), Shane Brostek (2012), Dylan Cozens (2012) -

Recruiting Insider News and Notes 1/26
Quickly, not a whole lot happened yesterday of any huge consequence for the Husky recruiting effort..atleast nothing that we can report at this time. I did learn that some very good news could come later this evening -- and if Sark "Woofs" I'll have an article ready to go up pronto. I spoke with the prospect yesterday whom I am referencing but am not pointing fingers or mentioning names quite yet. The problem that both myself and Brian Cook are having right now is that two other prospects have told us of their intentions, but because they want to announce on signing day, we are hamstrung and just can't release those names -- but rest assured -- Sark is putting a very solid class together. Signing day will be an absolute gas for those of you who …Tagged in this post: Joshua Garnett (2012), Zach Banner (2012), Cedric Dozier (2012), Shaq Thompson (2012) -

Recruiting Insider News and Notes 1/25: FREE VERSION
Tuesday was another day of nausea, headaches, vertigo, and other, more psychotic manifestations as recruitniks loaded up on all the recruiting news they could find in a vast array of places. Of course, we would prefer you find it here -- but this time of year there's a lot to be had from many different sources. Realdawg subscribers are used to getting these Insider News and Notes just about every night during the heat of recruiting season, but today I'm going to dedicate this installment to those hundreds of Twitter followers who ask me question after question out there in the Twitter cloud. Realdawggers will appreciate the info too, as always. But it won't kill anyone if we just open the doors this one time and let others take a peek inside at what's… -

Recruiting Insider News and Notes 1/24
It was a rather calm Monday, considering how insane Sunday was on the net. But there were some interesting developments. As we reported, Livermore, CA. DB, Damariay Drew took his name off the market and committed to Cal. Drew had been rumored to be a commit several months ago but those rumors had no substance as he had no offer yet at that time. Drew told us that it came down to making a decision his family had hoped he'd make; which was to stay close to home. I did confirm today that Cal commit, Kenny Walker is visiting this weekend. Walker, who's a tailback from Richmond, CA. is being recruited by Coach Kiesau now, just as he was when he committed to Cal. Walker just returned from a visit to UCLA over the weekend and said he almost committed then. We spoke briefl…Tagged in this post: Caleb Smith (2012), Damariay Drew (2012), Jake Eldrenkamp (2012), Kenneth Walker (2012) -

Recruiting Insider News and Notes 1/22
Yesterday was, perhaps, one of the most exciting days in Pac-12 football recruiting we've seen for years. Then you add in all the hoopla over Chip Kelly possibly (or possibly not) taking the Tampa Bay job, and it was an outright festival of fun for everyone on the net who cares about this insanity. College football and NFL fans even caused Twitter to clog up like a sprinkler hose with a big kink in it. Ah yes. As Jordan Payton said early yesterday, "Welcome to recruiting." For sites such as Realdawg.com and all the team-specific sites on the net, this is a little like Sweeps Week for television networks. We're gobbling up new subscription sign-ups daily and, because I've finally figured out the value of social networking, we'… -

Recruiting Insider News and Notes 1/19
It seems like every single day there is some new name popping up as the new Husky staff has definitely hit the ground running in this final stretch of recruiting. It's been almost exhausting trying to keep up, but still it's an adrenaline rush for those of us who cover recruiting and those of you who are recruitniks. Here's an Insider's look at what's transpired in the past few days... I did post a preliminary look at who is set to visit this weekend, and keep in mind -- as always -- this could change, pariticularly with all the info that has begun to leak out aboutDevian Shelton of Inglewood. Shelton was an Oregon State commit and his name came up immediately when Keith Heyward was hired, but Shelton could be a strong lean towar… -

Recruiting Insider News and Notes 1/11
It's beginning to get real hot inside the inner circles of the recruiting world right now. Fans want commits, as do coaches, but by this time of year the big shake-out happens and you find out who is in and out and still viable. To recap the past week, Shaq Thompson committed to Cal, which wasn't a super big shock considering his older brother had been a Cal Bear. Tairen Owens decommitted from Washington in order to commit to UCLA, but that loss isn't much to mourn about since there are other fish in the pond already -- like Erich Wilson. Please don't underestimate Wilson either. The kid is legit. So before getting upset about Owens, just check this out: Speaking of Hawai'i... I know people are wondering about Shane Brostek, and o… -

Recruiting Insider News and Notes 12/17
I haven't blogged for awhile because I'm a low-life as a blogger. I have to get better at it. But there's a whole lotta stuff to talk about right now. So many questions have arisen since the departure of Coach Martin to UCLA, but both myself and Cook have been working behind the scenes this past week to check up on who might be off the radar now that Meats is gone. I would cross Alphonzo Marsh and Kevon Seymour off the list, for starters. Seymour was beginnig to pull away from Washington anyway. But leave Brandon Beaver on the list, for sure. While it was true that Beaver was practically bleeding purple and gold for several months, his relationship with Martin was a primary reason. At the time, it seemed the only player who could be problematic for the Huskie… -

Recruiting Insider News and Notes 11/22
Worked the phones last night and got some quick stuff to post. Samson Kafolavu’s team was knocked out of the play offs over the weekend when they lost to Chino. It might be sooner now that a decision could be made. The Huskies have been in a good shape with Samson and he has said he sees himself playing there. He hasn’t spoken to Husky coaches yet this week, but when he does, we shall see… There’s been a lot of chatter about the solidity of Bryan Harper in his commitment to Washington, but according to my sources he’s still a Husky, without question. There’s a curious story-line to Byron Marshall’s commitment to Oregon. During the summer the Oregonian reported that he had been on campus, visiting practice that was a… -

Pac-12 conference FAQs: Bowls, standings, and more
Here's a rundown of some interesting perspectives on how the post-season could shape up for the Pac-12. No one actually asked me these questions, but anytime you are writing "FAQs" you have to pose hypothetical questions. What's the overall order of the entire Pac-12 right now? 1. Stanford 2. Oregon 3. Washington (T) 4. Arizona State (T) 5. USC 6. UCLA 7. Oregon State 8. Cal (T) 9. Utah (T) 10. Washington State 11. Arizona 12. Colorado What's next week's schedule? Stanford, Oregon, Washington and Arizona State have all clinched bowl berths with 6 wins. Friday -- USC @ Colorado Saturday -- Stanford @ Oregon State Washington State @ Cal Utah @ Arizona Arizona State @… -

Recruiting Insider News and Notes 10/26
There have been a lot of posts about the Brett Bafaro decision announcement which is scheduled for Friday, and as I said on the board, nowhere in our article about this did we say that Brett was announcing AT his game, we only reported what he said, which is that he was announcing BEFORE his game. This doesn't mean it's going to some pre-game party or anything else. Brett is going to notify Brian Cook of his decision. We have confirmed the following visitors for the weekend; Matt Cochran, Aziz Shittu, Samson Kafolavu, and possibly one more who we were are awaiting confirmation on. Someone asked me this week about Seth Draper of Arroyo Grande, CA. He is not looking at Washington right now. The weekend of the Oregon game will be nuts in recruiting. There will be a …Tagged in this post: Damion Turpin (2012), Kendyl Taylor (2012), Aziz Shittu (2012), Samson Kavolavu (2012), Matt Cochran (2012), Brett Bafaro (2012) -

Cedric Dozier says he's committed to Cal
Occasionally, even I get shocked when someone I've been covering commits to a certain school. After having talked with Lakes standout, Cedric Dozier last week, it seemed almost certain that he was getting "signs" to go to Washington, but instead, he said he committed to Cal today. "FINALLY MADE UP MY MIND....THANK YOU JESUS.... COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA ABOUT 10 MINS AGO", Dozier wrote on a social networking site about his decision. He hasn't yet taken any calls, but might just want to lay low with the local media because he's going to be leaving the state (that happens). Dozier had also said that he planned to not announce his decision until a press conference at Lake High School sometime later in the fall. But alas, he made h…Tagged in this post: Cedric Dozier (2012) -

Putting rumors to rest...Cyler Miles is 100% solid
It started a couple of weeks ago when there was a report on Scout.com about how Husky QB commit, Cyler Miles had taken a visit to Florida. We confirmed, at the time, that it wasn't any big deal and Miles was still committed. But the concerns continued to spread like wildfire on message boards, and I -- myself -- even began to analyze the stuff he was, or was not saying on his social networking pages (at times like that I REALLY need to get a life). But I spoke with Nicole Miles, Cyler's mom today and she said that Cyler isn't talking to the media because she told him to knuckle down on the calls and stay focused on his season (go girl!) Here's what she said: "Cyler gets bombarded with so many calls from so many different people coaches, etc....…Tagged in this post: Cyler Miles (2012) -

Recruiting Insider news and notes 10/12
Been looking around the net today and the rumor mill is more entertaining than a shopping day at Ross. But it's the nature of the beast and we all enjoy it once we hit full-steam into the second season. I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all, but I watched Brandon Huffman's video interview with Cedric Dozier on Friday night following Lakes game, in which Dozier said he'd been getting a "sign" lately about where he might go, and I believe I can say that I know that what the "sign" is that he got. In fact, I'm almost 100% sure I know what this "sign" was. Cedric won't announce it until the presser at Lakes, however. He will probably give a "nod" to the coaches he is committing to, but then wait to make it… -

Recruiting news and notes
Some folks on the board have asked about rumors swirling around regarding current Husky commits taking official visits. For one thing -- it's becoming the norm in recruiting. Guys take trips. Why not? Do the coaches like it? I highly doubt it, but for anyone who's stressing out about the fact that Cyler Miles went to Florida last weekend or Jeremy Castro talking about trips, don't! There's a lot of time between now and signing day and if you believe in the Sarkisian staff and their good judgement, then now is not the time to hit the panic button about any of this stuff. If you were an Oregon, USC, Arizona, or UCLA fan, you might have good reason to be worried, but UW fans needn't go cliff-jumping any time soon. So far there hasn't been much moveme… -

Jason Thompson is a Dawg
Scout.com reported earlier that Jason Thompson is a Husky. Ruth was also able to confirm the commit. There will be a more in depth article later. Jason is a 6-3 prospect from Kennedy High School who plays quarterback, and is the brother of current Husky defensive lineman, Everette Thompson. Thompson had a very strong showing recently at the Rising Stars camp and has a mean streak like his old brother. We were able to confirm this news as it broke and will be talking to Thompson very quickly. …Tagged in this post: Jason Thompson (2012) -

Top Five Current Commitments of the 2011 Class
1. Cyler Miles- Some of you may wonder why I have Miles ahead of Mercer Island's Jeff Lindquist. And I would answer right back with, "Location, location, location." Both quarterbacks are very talented, but Cyler brings UW a little more notoriety considering he's an out of state commit. In fact, his commitment caught the eye of the most talented running back this side of the Mississippi, Byron Marshall. In addition to the attention he brings, he's also a bit more athletic than Lindquist. 2. Jeremy Castro- Four star standout, Jeremy Castro, is a exactly the sort of player that Nick Holt has been looking for to put a stop to Oregon's vaunted spread attack. Castro is a hybrid&…Tagged in this post: Jeremy Castro (2012), Michael Rector (2012), Nathan Dean (2012), Cyler Miles (2012), Jeff Lindquist (2012) -

Castro clears up confusion
8:08 PM We spoke tonight to the latest Husky commit, 4-star linebacker Jeremy Castro, who clarified his position where Washington is concerned. After he committed to the Huskies, a story popped up on a recruiting network that said Castro was still open to the Oregon Ducks and that he intended on taking all five visits. He was then listed as a 'soft commit' and Husky fans began to wonder what the deal was. Castro said tonight that he's "100% solid to Washington", and that they were and ARE his first choice, no matter what any other school does from here on out. He said he'd thought about taking some trips later in the year, but agreed that -- until that actually happens and IF it happens -- that he's "solid" and wants it to be …
