What's Wrong With This Team?

Posted on December 19, 2011 at 17:56:33 by Walter Klockers

Five major issues of concern:

1)      This team lacks inside scoring threats.  They have some very good outside sharp shooters, but they can run hot and cold.  On the road, this has been a problem. If they rely too much upon the outside shot, they get to the foul line far less often than the competition.

2)      They miss Aziz on the defensive end.  He has his strengths and weaknesses like any player.  His lack of lateral quickness has been evident, but he is still an intimidating presence in the middle.  Take out that piece to the puzzle and teams have been finding a soft spot in the paint against the dawgs.  Without him, on defense, UW players have had to pay more attention to what’s happening in the paint. As a result, they have not been able to apply the same defensive pressure on the perimeter.

3)      Romar’s style allows players to have more of a free reign.  Tony’s style is to have the ball in his hands and make things happen.  As a result, there is less flow, and less involvement by other players.  The lack of production of Ross seems to be a direct result of this. This team isn’t as fun to watch for me because it reminds me of a less-talented NBA team.  Get the ball in “Kobe’s” hands and everyone else watches him play.

4)      Free Throws (especially Tony).  Must…make…them.

5)      Does this group have the ability to play earlier in the day or do they need another hour or two of sleep (half-joking)?
