Husky Women ready to go
The Husky women's basketball team will begin their season under new head coach, Kevin McGuff Tuesday when they host Concordia.
Tip-off is set for 7 pm at Hec-Ed.
As most fans know, Kristi Kingma is out for the entire season due to a torn ACL suffered when the team was in Scandinavia over the summer -- this is not good news for the Huskies as Kingma was the team's leading scorer in 2010-11 (15.6 ppg). Kingma had also set a school record for 3-pointers.
McGuff will look to Regina Rogers to help facilitate the scoring that Kingma won't be able to contribute. Rogers averaged 10 points per game last season and will continue to be a force to be reckoned with inside.
Concordia is a Division II NAIA school located in Portland, Ore. The Cavaliers play in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Last year, Concordia finished 24-10 and made its second-ever appearance at the NAIA D-II National Championships after sharing the regular season title.
Here's more quicknotes from the UW about the upcoming season:
• The Huskies went 1-0 in exhibition games last season, topping D-II power Western Washington 63-46.
• Washington was picked 10th in the preseason Pac-12 Women's Basketball Media Poll.
• The Huskies have not lost an exhibition game since dropping a 75-67 decision to Seattle Pacific in 2007.
• Washington has six newcomers this season: three early signees, one transfer and two late signees.
• The Huskies went 5-0 during a summer tour of Europe's Scandinavian countries.
